LABOR CALLS ON GOVERNMENT TO ACT ON QUAD BIKE SAFETY
STEPHEN JONES MP
Labor is calling on the Government to act quickly to improve quad bike safety.

Over 230 Australians have died in quad bike accidents since 2001, including seven this year to date.

And over 650 people are hospitalised every year following quad bike accidents.

The cost to Australian families is enormous.

The Australian Consumer and Competition Commission has found that many of these deaths could be avoided through the implementation of new safety standards.

The new standards would include the installation of crush protection devices.

These standards have been supported by the National Farmers Federation, the union movement, medical practitioners, international experts, and rural communities across Australia.

Labor’s spokesperson for Consumer Affairs has written to the Assistant Treasurer, Michael Sukkar, calling on him to implement the findings of the ACCC’s report.

Enough lives have been lost already. It is time that the Government put basic safety standards in place to protect Australian quad bike riders.
