LEGACY WEEK 2019
SHAYNE NEUMANN MP
Today marks the start of Legacy Week, the annual national appeal to support the families of veterans who lose their lives or their health as a result of their military service.
Shadow Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Defence Personnel Shayne Neumann will represent Labor Leader Anthony Albanese at the official launch of this year’s Legacy Week at the Australian War Memorial on Monday.
“I look forward to attending the Legacy Week National Launch and laying a wreath to honour all veterans’ families,” he said.
“Legacy is an outstanding community organisation that provides services to families of veterans who have died or given their health.
“This includes some of the most vulnerable members of our community, such as elderly widows, and children and dependants with a disability.
“These efforts are ably supported by veterans, servicemen and women, and other volunteers from all walks of life.
“Labor values our veterans and their families, and understands the unique nature of military family life and that families can also be deeply affected by military service.
“This is why prior to the last election Labor committed to support for Legacy’s Family Assist Program.
“Labor also developed a national Family Engagement and Support Strategy to identify improvements to family support.
“Labor joins with the Government in encouraging all Australians to support Legacy Week this year and buy a badge to support veterans and their families in our community,” Mr Neumann said.
Legacy Week will help around 60,000 beneficiaries through funding essential services and help provide educational resources to children.
Legacy Week 2019 runs from Sunday, 1 September to Saturday, 7 September, with Badge Day on Friday, 6 September.
