REX PATRICK TOES MORRISON’S LINE ON GLADYS LIU

After weeks of bluster on the need for transparency on matters relating to China, Senator Rex Patrick voted with the Government to protect Gladys Liu from scrutiny.
Senator Rex Patrick voted with the Morrison Government to protect the Prime Minister from scrutiny over Gladys Liu.
Senator Patrick voted against a motion that would have ensured the Morrison Government explain why it ignored reported warnings from security agencies in relation to Ms Liu and her links to the Chinese Communist Party.
In the Senate, Labor moved a suspension of standing orders to require Senator Cormann to provide:
Senator Rex Patrick voted with the Morrison Government to protect the Prime Minister from scrutiny over Gladys Liu.
Senator Patrick voted against a motion that would have ensured the Morrison Government explain why it ignored reported warnings from security agencies in relation to Ms Liu and her links to the Chinese Communist Party.
In the Senate, Labor moved a suspension of standing orders to require Senator Cormann to provide:
- An explanation of the government’s response to the allegations raised against the member for Chisholm, and
- An assurance to the Senate that the member for Chisholm is a fit and proper person to remain a member of the Australian parliament.
Senator Lambie, the Greens, and One Nation all voted in favour of this scrutiny.
Senator Patrick joined forces with Senator Bernardi to shield the Government.
This is despite his Centre Alliance colleague Rebekha Sharkie supporting Labor’s efforts for appropriate scrutiny in the House of Representatives.
Despite all his tough talk, Senator Patrick has shown himself to be a stalking horse for the Morrison Government and has lost all credibility on matters relating to China.
