Labor welcomes the appointment of Phillipa Harrison as Tourism Australia’s new Managing Director.

Ms Harrison has extensive experience in the industry, including as Tourism Australia’s Executive General Manager International and a stint as acting Managing Director.
 
Shadow Minister for Tourism, Senator Don Farrell, congratulated Ms Harrison on her appointment and thanked former Managing Director John O’Sullivan for his leadership over five years at the helm of Tourism Australia.
 
“Labor understands that tourism is at the heart of Australia’s economic narrative, contributing $100 billion to our national GDP and employing almost one million people,” Senator Farrell said.
 
“The global tourism market is extremely competitive and Tourism Australia’s work with the sector and promoting Australia’s amazing variety of outstanding travel destinations to the world has never been more important.”
 
Shadow Assistant Minister for Infrastructure & Regional Tourism, Senator Carol Brown welcomed the appointment and said “I look forward to working with Ms Harrison to ensure that international visitors understand the many benefits of expanding their travel beyond the major cities to visit and spend time in our wonderful regions”
 
“Tourism is vital to our regions as a job creator and economic driver which can contribute significantly to the quality of life for regional communities.”
