GOVERNMENT UNDERSPENDS ON PBS WHILE PATIENTS WAIT FOR LISTINGS
CHRIS BOWEN MP
Minister Hunt continuously claims the Government is “providing Australian patients with access to lifesaving and life-changing medicines quicker than ever before”.
The reality is the Minister is underspending on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme while PBAC recommended drugs remain unlisted.
The Final Budget Outcome produced by the Government yesterday confirmed an underspend of $155 million against the $13.457 billion forecast and promised spending on the PBS.
Greg Hunt should explain to the patients waiting for more than sixty recommended drugs why they are waiting, when he isn’t allowing subsidies for the life saving listings promised to them.
Minister Hunt proudly boasts about every PBS listing. He is also accountable for every drug that he refuses to list.
This Minister makes those in need wait an average wait time of over six months for new listings.
Greg Hunt needs to stop the delays on PBS listings, and start treating Australian patients with respect.
Under this Government, health out of pocket costs and waiting lists are at record highs.
