AIHW CONFIRMS AUSTRALIANS HAVE NEVER PAID MORE FOR HEALTH CARE
CHRIS BOWEN MP
Today’s AIHW Health Expenditure Australia 2017/18 Report has confirmed that this Government just isn’t getting it when it comes to health care.
Australians have never paid more for health care out of their own pocket while the Coalition’s Government health spending growth is going backwards.
According to today’s numbers, Australians spend over $30 billion a year on out of pocket health costs.
This means Australians are paying a record average of $1578 out of their own pocket for essential health care each year.
This is while Government spending growth on health is at decade lows and health expenditure has reduced as a percentage of revenue.
This Morrison Government likes to pretend ‘everything is great’ and there’s ‘nothing to see here’ when the reality is they are doing nothing about cost of living and people’s wages.
It’s no wonder 1.3 million Australians avoid Medicare services per year due to cost.
It couldn’t be clearer that this Government needs to stop sitting on their hands when it comes to the health system, and address the record out of pocket costs and record high waiting lists on their watch.
