DISABILITY AGENCY WITHOUT LEADERSHIP FOR 150 DAYS
BILL SHORTEN MP
People with disability are being treated with contempt by the Morrison Government, as the National Disability Insurance Agency today marks 150 days without a CEO.

And where’s Stuart Robert amid this pressing crisis in the running of the peak state disability authority?

Mr Robert had advertised that he would be doing a tour of the Middle East between now and early October. But Robert had previously said he would reconsider this trip after being re-appointed to Cabinet.

We know the Invisible Minister for the NDIS likes hiding from his responsibilities. But is he really overseas when the NDIA is rudderless and needing a proper CEO?

Not only have the Liberals ripped a staggering $4.6b from the NDIS they are presiding over an exodus of senior executives, endemic delays in the provision of goods and services and a head-less organisation.

The scheme was legislated for in 2013 and commenced roll out more than three years ago. But it is being neglected by the Liberals and is suffering from executive dysfunction and a lack of leadership from the Minister.

This is resulting in stress, pain and even deaths among people with disability.

Recent symptoms of the malaise include:
  • Planners under the scheme having no proper guide as to whether to reject or approve participants’ plans because internal directives, scheme policy and legislation are often contradictory.
  • The NDIA adjusting the pricing guide to increase the payment providers would receive by 7.5 per cent for some services – but without boosting participants’ plans by the same amount meaning people with disability will now get fewer services – not more – than they did before the price increase.
Australians with disability deserve better than the neglect and abandonment this Government is displaying toward them.
