REPORT INTO NATIONAL INTEGRITY COMMISSION
THE HON MARK DREYFUS QC MP
Labor welcomes today’s report by the Select Committee into a National Integrity Commission.
Labor supported the establishment of the committee to investigate the merits of a National Integrity Commission – government Senators opposed it.
We are taking its recommendations seriously. We will examine the contents and conclusion of this report closely and respond in due course.
People’s trust in politics and public administration depends on the confidence and assurance that corruption will be met with the full force of the law.
If the systems that are currently in place need to be strengthened, then that should be seriously considered.
We look forward to seeing the government’s response, and will consider our own.
