GOVERNMENT NEEDS A PLAN FOR REGIONAL JOBS
ANTHONY ALBANESE MP
Scott Morrison must act on the worsening jobs crisis in Regional Queensland by producing a genuine plan to drive jobs growth.

Analysis released today from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland shows there’s a jobs crisis in the bush.

When Labor left office, the median wait for a job in Mackay was eight weeks. It’s now at 23 weeks.

The average wait time for someone to find a job in parts of central Queensland is almost 10 times the wait in inner city Brisbane.

It’s not right that when someone loses their job in Mount Isa it takes them on average 18 months to find work, while in inner-city Brisbane the wait is eight weeks.

It’s not right that the Prime Minister is more interested in playing politics while his Government, in its seventh year, blames everyone else for the jobs crisis around the country.

It’s also not right that people looking for work languish on a disastrously low rate of Newstart which the Government refuses to raise.

Where is Scott Morrison’s plan to get secure, well-paid jobs into regional areas?
