MORRISON’S MOON TO MARS MONEY LOST IN SPACE
BRENDAN O’CONNOR MP
In Senate Estimates today it was revealed that departmental officials have no idea how the Government’s $150 million NASA Moon to Mars funding will be administered, and only $15 million is slated to be spent by 2022-23.
Despite Scott Morrison making this announcement with great fanfare, as usual, he was being loose with the truth.
Senate Estimates questioning uncovered that the funding starts to flow in 2021-22 with just $5 million.
Over the forward estimates, funding grows to just $15 million in total – 10% of the Morrison pledge.
Department officials revealed they did not even know how the funding would be administered, such as through a grants program or concessional loans.
Promises like these have zero gravity.
Australians deserve to know where and how this money is being spent.
