EDINBURGH AIR SHOW SOARS TO SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC
The Australian Defence Force’s most advanced military aircraft and technologies will be on display at Adelaide’s RAAF Base Edinburgh at the 2019 Edinburgh Air Show.
Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC said the Air Show, which is being held on 9-10 November, will feature a wide range of ADF fast jet, transport and rotary wing aircraft.
“The Air Show is a rare opportunity for the public to experience ADF aircraft capability first hand and meet the people who operate them,” Minister Reynolds said.
“RAAF Base Edinburgh is vital to Australia’s military intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance and electronic warfare capabilities.
“Air Force’s newest maritime patrol aircraft the P-8A Poseidon, which calls Adelaide home, will be on display, alongside jets such as F/A-18 Hornet Fighters.
“The Liberal and National Government is investing $470 million to deliver new and upgraded facilities and significant airfield works at RAAF Base Edinburgh to support the introduction of the P-8A aircraft.”
Senator for South Australia David Fawcett served as an experimental test pilot and Commanding Officer at the Aircraft Research & Development Unit located at RAAF Base Edinburgh.
“RAAF Base Edinburgh has been an integral part of the Adelaide community for more than half a century,” Senator Fawcett said.
“This year’s Air Show will commemorate 100 years since South Australian brothers, Sir Ross and Sir Keith Smith, made their first flight from England to Australia in a Vickers Vimy WWI Bomber aircraft in 1919.”
