200 NURSING HOMES AT RISK OF CLOSURE

Shocking new evidence has revealed the disastrous toll of Scott Morrison’s cuts to aged care, with almost 200 nursing homes at risk of closing across the country.

Providers of care to older Australians have confirmed the Liberals’ aged care cuts are to blame.

Scott Morrison cut $1.2 billion from residential aged care in his first Budget as Treasurer - backing in a $500 million cut in his first MYEFO.

Review after review has been ignored with recommendations for fixing Australia's aged care system left to collect dust in different ministerial offices.

The closure of 200 residential aged care facilities would be a disaster for older Australians and the loved ones who care for them.

Today’s revelations regarding the potential closure of 200 residential aged care facilities is yet more evidence of the growing uncertainty about the viability of Australia’s aged care system.

The head of the government authority responsible for advising the Minister in relation to funding and sustainability admitted at Senate Estimates the viability of the entire aged care sector is at risk.

It is time for the Government to come clean about whether there are other facilities across the country that may also be at risk of closure.

Older Australians and their loved ones have a right to know.

The Liberals have been asleep at the wheel for six years, with four Ministers and billions ripped out while Australia’s aged care system has lurched from one crisis to another.

Scott Morrison and the Government must do better to ensure older Australians get the quality aged care services they deserve now – older Australians and their loved ones can’t afford to wait any longer.
