INCREASED SUPPORT FOR TRANSITIONING ADF MEMBERS

Australian Defence Force (ADF) members leaving full-time service will be better supported during transition and into new employment under a new contract Defence has signed with Right Management Consultants Pty Ltd.

Minister for Veterans and Defence Personnel Darren Chester said the contract marked an important step for Defence as it moves to a needs-based transition support system.

The three-year contract follows a competitive tender process and will deliver external professional support services to help ADF members to secure employment or meaningful engagement post-transition.

“Historically, the ADF’s eligibility criteria has favoured access to services and funding based on a member’s length of service above other considerations,” Mr Chester said.

“The new needs-based approach will ensure the services are delivered in a focused and timely way with a view to building an enduring capability to sustain their civilian careers post-transition.”

The new contract will deliver a suite of career development services which include career coaching, job search preparation workshops, resume preparation and interview skills.

The support services delivered under the new contract will complement the existing support programs delivered by Defence. These include the 30 ADF Member and Family Transition Seminars held annually across Australia and the ADF transition coaching service where members and their families receive tailored support.

“Defence recognises transition preparation should commence early and be maintained throughout a member’s ADF career. This approach will improve the current support to ensure members are better prepared to manage their transition to civilian life, whenever that may be,” said Mr Chester.

“The decision to use a national provider will ensure members receive a consistent, high-quality service, irrespective of their location. It will also be a less disruptive experience for members when they move to a new location as part of their transition.”
