AUSTRALIA-INDONESIA FOREIGN AND DEFENCE MINISTERS’ MEETING
SENATOR THE HON MARISE PAYNE
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator the Hon Marise Payne and the Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC, will meet their Indonesian counterparts on Friday in Bali for the 2019 Australia-Indonesia 2+2 Foreign and Defence Ministers’ meeting.
They will hold talks with H.E. the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi, and H.E. the Minister for Defence, Prabowo Subianto.
Indonesia and Australia are firm friends and neighbours, as well as strategic partners in the Indo-Pacific.
This relationship continues to strengthen under our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, announced by Prime Minister Scott Morrison and President Joko Widodo in August 2018.
Our countries have shared commitments to combatting terrorism, ensuring maritime security, promoting peace and security in our region, and working to strengthen regional security architecture.
We are also committed to building trade and investment ties under the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
The 2+2 meeting is an important opportunity to discuss additional ways to deepen and strengthen our partnership, and identify areas for greater cooperation to meet shared security and foreign policy challenges.
Minister Payne and Minister Reynolds look forward to working with their counterparts on building a relationship that reflects the close friendship and long history of cooperation between our countries.
