TIME FOR FULL INVESTIGATION INTO NEWMARCH HOUSE OUTBREAK
Julie Collins MP
New reports today about the second wave of infections at Newmarch House underscore the need for a full investigation into what has gone wrong at the facility.

Labor reiterates our call for the Aged Care Royal Commission to investigate the COVID-19 outbreak at Newmarch House after so many infections at the facility.

Only the Royal Commission has the necessary investigative powers to get to the bottom of what has happened, with ongoing reports of infection control failures at Newmarch House.

The residents of Newmarch House their loved ones and staff deserve answers.

Sixteen residents have sadly passed away at the facility and more than 60 people have tested positive.

While the Royal Commission is rightly looking at aged care and COVID-19 more generally, a special investigation into what happened at this facility is warranted.

All Australians must be assured we have the very best infection control practises in aged care.

Australia’s aged care system was broken before the COVID-19 pandemic and this is only putting extra stress on the system.

We have seen the devastating impact of COVID-19 outbreaks in aged care in Australia and across the globe.

This is why an investigation from the Royal Commission is so important.

It is vitally important workers and providers are supported to ensure that we limit the transmission of COVID-19 in aged care.
