PRIME MINISTER NEEDS TO COME CLEAN ON NUCLEAR PLAN
MARK BUTLER MP
After claiming nuclear energy is “not our policy” the Prime Minister now needs to explain why it is featured in his Government’s “technology road map”.

The Prime Minister needs to explain what his energy vision is for the future of Australia. Is it renewables and storage or is it expensive and dangerous nuclear energy?

Over the past 50 years, there have been at least 95 proposals for nuclear power stations in Australia and 42 proposals for nuclear waste dumps.

Almost all of the proposed nuclear reactor sites are near residential communities.

The head of John Howard’s previous inquiry into nuclear energy, Ziggy Switkowski, has conceded that “the possibility of catastrophic failure within the nuclear system is non-negligible.”

Nuclear energy is three times more expensive than firmed renewables and would lead to higher power prices.

The Prime Morrison has kowtowed to his backbench and now needs to be upfront with Australians about exactly where he wants to build nuclear reactors.
