MORRISON GOVERNMENT MUST OUTLINE COMMITMENT TO VIRGIN WORKERS
CATHERINE KING MP
The Morrison Government must immediately outline the level of support it is prepared to offer in order to secure the future of Virgin Australia’s 16,000 workers and the ongoing viability of Australia’s second major airline.

Recent reports have made clear that administrators, bidders and unions all hold real concerns regarding the ability of the airline to survive through administration without guarantees regarding government support.

This would be an unacceptable outcome for Virgin Australia’s thousands of workers.

The Government sat on their hands as Virgin Australia fell into administration, now they must act to ensure the airline has a future.

Australia’s economy is reliant on having two major airlines. Beyond Virgin Australia’s direct employees, the competition they provide ensures affordable services regularly reach all Australians and provide a lifeline for tourist economies across the country, from Cairns to Launceston

A strong airline industry will be critical to our nation’s recovery from the COVID crisis, it is too important to give up on.
