2023 FIFA WOMEN’S WORLD CUP
SENATOR DON FARRELL
Australia’s successful bid to co-host the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup is an exciting milestone in our sporting history.

Labor backed the Australian bid from the start because hosting the tournament will provide huge benefits for Australia and for women in sport.

The Matildas are a champion team and one of our greatest recent sporting success stories.

Australians can now look forward to seeing the Matildas contest the world’s largest women’s sporting event on home turf, knowing they will continue to do us proud and encourage women and girls to participate in sport.

Hosting a major international sporting event like the Women’s World Cup will bring visitors to Australia along with associated economic benefits – a welcome boost for our sport and tourism sectors during these challenging times.

Labor is committed to supporting ongoing growth in women’s participation in sport, along with continued improvements in opportunity and professionalism.

Hosting the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup will showcase Australia’s successes for women in sport on the international stage and inspire a whole new generation of girls to pursue their sporting dreams.

We look forward to working with FFA, Australia’s football community and all levels of government to ensure the tournament continues Australia’s proud history of excellence in delivering major sporting events.
