THE SREBRENICA GENOCIDE
ANTHONY ALBANESE MP
Today we remember the loss of more than 8000 innocent lives, 25 years on from the massacre in Srebrenica and its surrounds.

It was the worst atrocity on European soil since the end of World War II - families were destroyed, and generations wiped out.

Members of the Bosnian community across the world will come together, where it is possible, to reflect on this great loss. They have our sincerest condolences.

Their pain is not one that should ever have to be endured – and it should never be denied.

The lessons from this dark chapter of humanity should renew our commitment to strengthening the framework of international law. We have a collective global responsibility to safeguard human rights.

While much progress has been made, we must also continue to work at maintaining strong, diverse communities – united by a commitment to respect others, value the rule of law, and preserve social harmony and cohesion.

A quarter of a century on, we must ensure the memory of Srebrenica never fades.
