MORRISON GOVERNMENT MUST ENSURE OLDER AUSTRALIANS IN AGED CARE ARE SAFE
Julie Collins MP
With concerning new outbreaks of COVID-19 in Victorian aged care facilities the Morrison Government must assure Australians everything is being done to keep residents and staff safe.

We have seen the devastating impact of COVID-19 outbreaks in aged care in Australia and across the globe.

The Morrison Government must learn lessons from the management of previous COVID-19 outbreaks, including at Newmarch House where 19 residents sadly passed away.

It is vitally important workers and providers are supported to limit the transmission of COVID-19 in aged care, including the adequate supply of PPE.

There should be clear protocols around the transfer of any COVID positive residents to hospital, along with the evacuation of residents from facilities if this is required.

There must also be clear communication with the families of loved ones who are residents at any facility with an outbreak of COVID-19.

Australia’s aged care system was broken before the COVID-19 pandemic and this is only putting extra stress on the system.

All Australians must be assured we have the very best infection control practises in aged care.
