REGIONAL ROAD SAFETY MONTH 2020
CATHERINE KING MP
This August, we join the Australian Road Safety Foundation (ARSF) in acknowledging Rural Road Safety Month.
Rural Road Safety Month is a national awareness campaign organised by the ARSF which targets regional and rural road safety.
We know that rural road crashes account for more than 65% of the Australian road toll.
The rate of serious road-related injury among residents in rural areas is nearly twice that of those in major cities.
Worryingly, Australia is currently failing to reach our road safety targets.
Rural Road Safety Month provides an opportunity for governments and all road users to stop and think about how we can improve our in-car behaviour in an effort to making our roads safer.
The Australian Road Safety Foundation is encouraging local road safety advocates, communities, schools and other interested groups to get involved, share road safety ideas and information and make a pledge to #ChooseRoadSafety.
