MORRISON’S CHRISTMAS JOBSEEKER SNAPBACK WILL TRIGGER RENTAL CRISIS
LINDA BURNEY MP
Labor is calling on the Morrison Government to deliver a permanent increase to JobSeeker to avoid a rental crisis, following the release of Anglicare Australia’s ‘Rental Affordability Update’.
The report warns that the proportion of affordable rentals will decrease to virtually 0 per cent when the JobSeeker Payment returns to its old base rate after December.
“Renters are doing it tough and with unemployment set to go up, it’s only going to get tougher”, said Linda Burney, Shadow Minister for Families and Social Services.
“The Prime Minister is set to unleash a housing crisis when he snapsback JobSeeker at Christmas.
“The Morrison Government can’t afford to leave unemployed Australians behind during the pandemic.
“The Prime Minister needs to deliver a permanent increase to JobSeeker.”
