HUNDREDS OF QLD JOBS SET TO GO UNDER MORRISON GOVERNMENT

Under the Morrison Government, hundreds of meat workers in Ipswich are facing joblessness in the midst of a recession.

JBS Australia announced it was cutting 600 full time jobs at its Dinmore facility, the largest meat processing plant in Australia, with many set to cease in a matter of weeks.

While the beef industry faces a number of issues, JBS faced further market inequities created by the Government’s JobKeeper program.

The Government is providing JobKeeper to labour hire companies who are producing labour at a cheaper rate into other meat processing plants. This is distorting competition, driving up prices, and outbidding JBS.

The Morrison Government has demonstrated some flexibility with JobKeeper in the past. However, there has been nothing but silence since JBS announced 600 full time job losses.
Instead while more Australians continue to join unemployment queues, the Morrison Government is removing substantial JobKeeper support from the economy without any jobs plan to replace it.
These 600 job losses will have a devastating impact on the Ipswich region.

Australians are hanging out for a jobs plan, but all the Liberals have to offer are cuts to JobKeeper, cuts to JobSeeker, cuts to the Superannuation Guarantee, cuts to wages, and a pension freeze.
