XENOPHON’S HOLLOW PROMISES SPARK FEARS AMONG SA ESSENTIAL SERVICE WORKERS
BRENDAN O’CONNOR MP SHADOW MINISTER FOR EMPLOYMENT AND WORKPLACE RELATIONS
Labor calls on the Turnbull Government to exempt South Australian essential service workers from its unfair and anti-worker building code.
In February Labor moved amendments to protect workers in essential services and consumers who rely on them.
Senator Xenophon voted against Labor’s amendment; instead he accepted a hollow promise from the Government.
Now, the building code might be applied to 25 per cent of SA Power Networks (SAPN) workforce, sparking fears of job losses, cheap labour hire and fewer skilled workers.
Now that his hollow agreement with the Turnbull Government has fallen through, will Senator Xenophon step up and commit to fixing it?
The ABCC is subject to the whim of Commissioner Nigel Hadgkiss whose conduct that has been questioned in court for being “unjustifiably vexatious” and prone to “unsubstantiated hyperbole”.
The Liberal Government’s return of the ABCC and implementation of the Building Code is simply part of their anti-worker, ideological agenda, aided and abetted by Senator Xenophon.
