GOVERNMENT RESPONSE TO THE IGADF INQUIRY
RICHARD MARLES MP
Labor supports the announcement today that the Federal Government will establish an Office of the Special Investigator for the purposes of dealing with the outcomes of the Inspector General of the Australian Defence Force (IGADF)’s Afghanistan Inquiry.
It is essential the establishment of this Office provide an assurance to the Australian community that the IGADF inquiry is treated with the seriousness it warrants.
We welcome the establishment of an expert panel to oversee the implementation of cultural and organisational reforms arising from the IGADF inquiry.
We must have confidence in the behaviour, standing and culture within the ranks of those who wear our nation’s uniform.
The matters subject to review in the IGADF inquiry are serious and it has been vital in upholding the confidence in our defence institutions that the inquiry was allowed to run its course.
Labor will provide further comment once it has been further briefed on this matter.
