Applications now open for round two of the Safer Communities Fund
Michael Keenan MP
The Coalition Government has opened round two of the Safer Communities Fund.
This funding will directly contribute to enhancing community safety and security, as well as reducing street crime and violence.
Local councils and community organisations are invited to apply through this open competitive round for funding for security enhancement projects, such as CCTV, bollards and lighting.
The Safer Communities Fund provides grants of up to $1 million for security infrastructure initiatives that address crime and anti-social behaviour, help reduce the fear of crime, increase feelings of safety, and contribute to the safety of communities that may be at risk of racial and/or religious intolerance.
In April 2017, round one of the Safer Communities Fund awarded $9.4 million to 65 organisations delivering crime prevention and security infrastructure projects.
The Safer Communities Fund implements the Government's commitment to boost the efforts of local councils and community organisations to address crime and anti-social behaviour, and builds on the Government's successful Safer Streets Programme and Schools Security Programme.
The Government intends to continue its strong track record of working to ensure Australian communities are safe and secure.
Applications open today, and close on 14 November 2017. Information on how to apply for funding is available on the Australian Government's Safer Communities Fund website at www.business.gov.au/safer-communities-fund, or by calling 13 28 46.
Educational institutions are not eligible to receive funding under round two of the Safer Communities Fund, but will be able to apply under a new round of the Schools Security Programme which will open later this year.
