LABOR WELCOMES NEW PBS PRICE REDUCTIONS
CATHERINE KING MP
Labor welcomes the confirmation that numerous drugs on the PBS will have their price reduced on Sunday.
Medications including Lipitor, Plavix, Zovirax, Levlen and Diflucan will become cheaper as a result of price disclosure arrangements.
More affordable medicine for Australians is always welcome news, and we are pleased the Government is continuing Labor’s PBS work.
In 2010 Labor introduced price disclosure arrangements, making further changes in 2013 to speed up the time in which applicable medicines are reduced on the PBS - saving both consumers and the government money.
Of course we are pleased that the reforms we introduced in Government are continuing to help Australians access more affordable medicine. But the Government has only listed a fraction of the $20 billion handed to them by Labor’s reforms, so they need to explain where the missing $14 billion is, money which could be going to more new medicines.
