THIS IS NOT AN APRIL FOOL’S JOKE
JASON CLARE MP
Today marks 100 days since Michael Sukkar was appointed Minister for Homelessness.
Unbelievably, in that time he has only spoken publicly about homelessness on one of these days.
That day was 18 March when he had to answer a question in Parliament then speak to a Matter of Public Importance (MPI).
Apart from that, he hasn’t muttered the word publicly in a speech or a press conference or interview or any other transcript published online.
Throughout this time, the number of Australians sleeping rough has gone up and up as they have been forced out of empty hotels and motels that sheltered them during the pandemic.
And throughout all this time, the Minister for Homelessness has said nothing, let alone do anything to help.
It is not enough to have a Minister with the word ‘homelessness’ in his title.
Australians who are doing it tough need a Minister who isn’t afraid to say the word, and maybe even do something about it.
