HOMEBUILDER CHANGE STILL NEEDED
JASON CLARE MP
The HomeBuilder Scheme is now closed but many Australians who have applied for the grant are unsure whether they’ll even get it.
Labor is again calling on the Prime Minister to extend the scheme’s construction commencement timeframe from six to twelve months to make it easier for builders to comply with the rules and ensure homeowners don’t miss out.
This would also help sustain work for the housing construction industry when it is expected to drop off next year.
Under the current HomeBuilder guidelines, construction must commence within six months of signing the contract.
Shortages of supplies such as timber have caused significant delays for some home builders which could mean they won’t comply with the current HomeBuilder rules and miss out on receiving the grant.
This is a simple, commonsense change the Morrison Government could make today.
It’s not just Labor is calling for this. The building construction industry, local businesses and even state Liberal MPs have all called for the Morrison Government to extend HomeBuilder’s construction commencement timeframe.
The Prime Minister and the Minister for Housing should hurry up and make this change today so Australians who applied actually can get the $25,000 grant.
