BARNABY’S WATER WAR WILL DESTROY PLAN
TERRI BUTLER MP
Barnaby Joyce was sworn in as Deputy Prime Minister only yesterday, but he and his party are wasting no time in trying to shred the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.
Surprise National Party amendments in the Senate today bring the $13 billion Murray Darling Basin Plan to the brink of destruction, pitting farmer against farmer and state versus state.
The Nationals’ revolt against the Morrison Government – of which they are a part – will damage the rivers’ health, hurt farming communities, and harm Australia’s economy.
The Nationals’ proposed amendments to what was expected to be an uncontroversial, bipartisan bill in the Senate today would drive a stake through the heart of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan and start a dog-eat-dog water war among communities up and down the basin.
These actions demonstrate that Scott Morrison has lost control of his Government.
If you can’t govern yourselves, you can’t govern the country.
The Coalition Government’s record on water speaks for itself.
