FUNDING FOR NATIONAL WOMEN’S ALLIANCES
SENATOR THE HON MARISE PAYNE
The Morrison Government has committed $4.9 million over three years in the Women’s Budget Statement 2021-22 to continue the specialist National Women’s Alliances.
The six Women’s Alliances play a key role in understanding the experiences of and issues affecting Australian women, and ensuring their voices are heard in the policy development process.
The Women’s Alliances collaborate with Government to inform policy and decision making on the priority issues of women’s safety, women’s economic security and leadership, women with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and women living in rural, regional and remote areas.
Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Women, Senator the Hon Marise Payne, said the funding commitment ensures that we continue to build on the work of the Women’s Alliances over the past decade.
“The National Women’s Alliances are a valuable source of insight and advice to government and they bring women’s perspectives to the forefront of policy development,” Minister Payne said.
“I look forward to working with the National Women’s Alliances to develop policy that will lead to better outcomes for women across Australia, no matter their circumstances.”
After an open and competitive grants round, six specialist women’s organisations were awarded funding, including, for the first time, an alliance for Australian women with disability. This builds on the Australian Government’s commitment to ensure the lived experience of women with disability is acknowledged, and that their views are represented in policies that impact them.
