GOVERNMENT DEBT COLLECTING FROM SYDNEY FAMILIES IN LOCKDOWN
AMANDA RISHWORTH MP
It is unbelievably cruel that some Sydney families are reportedly receiving historic Child Care Subsidy debt bills into the thousands during the current lockdown.

Labor has been critical of the Morrison Government’s ongoing tardiness in reconciling the Child Care Subsidy, leaving families in a state of limbo and anxiety about whether they will owe a debt.

It beggars belief that the Morrison Government would choose now to process debts from the 2018/19 and 2019/20 financial years, at a time when Sydney families are in lockdown.

To hunt down Sydney families for money when many have lost their jobs and are surviving on emergency payments is just cruel.

Last year, the Government paused the collection of Centrelink debts during the pandemic.

Now, due to the Morrison Government’s bungled vaccine rollout, Sydney residents are facing a worse lockdown period than they did in 2020. Yet they are not being offered the same support.

The Morrison Government must urgently reconsider the collection of Child Care Subsidy debts for families impacted by the Sydney lockdown.
