LABOR WELCOMES FINDINGS OF HEALTH REPORT

Labor welcomes the recommendations of the Standing Committee on Health, Aged Care and Sport to improve our public healthcare system.
The committee’s report ‘The New Frontier: Delivering better health for all Australians’ makes important recommendations to reform and improve our valued public healthcare system.
Labor will now carefully consider the report’s findings with the view to improving medicines accessibility for all.
In recent years, we have witnessed significant advancements in medical research, particularly in genomics, and in treatments that have become available for a variety of medical conditions.
Many of these have previously been considered to be ‘untreatable’.
Dramatic advances in technology are also making treatments for chronic conditions, such as diabetes, much better.
They have the potential to significantly improve the quality of life of many Australians coping with chronic disease, provided they get timely and equitable access to these technologies.
As new technologies and better treatments emerge our health care system must be able to adapt and respond, to ensure that patients are able to access the highest quality care.
Labor believes in strengthening our health care system.
Labor built Medicare and will always work to defend and improve our public healthcare system.
