DRIVE TO SURVIVE THIS HOLIDAY PERIOD
CATHERINE KING MP
With the school holidays and the Christmas period upon us, Labor is urging the entire community to stay safe on our roads.

After two years of lockdowns, home-schooling and missed holidays, families across Australia are looking forward to getting on the road, reconnecting with loved ones and enjoying a well-earned break from it all.

With so much to look forward to over summer, it is more important than ever that we stay safe on our roads.

Any life lost or family reunion cancelled because of a crash on our roads is one too many.

Everyone on our roads deserves to stay safe, whether they are a family heading to Christmas lunch, truckies keeping our shelves stocked or taxi and rideshare drivers keeping us connected.

Road safety affects us all. According to government data, 1,134 people have died on Australian roads up to October this year. This is already more than the total lives lost in 2020.

With the next National Road Safety Strategy due in the new year, Labor encourages the Morrison-Joyce Government to set their sights high, setting ambitious targets to lead to better road safety outcomes over the next decade.

Until then though, it is up to all Australians to stay safe, stay patient and drive to survive on our roads this summer.
