Scholarships for South Australian students on the way
SENATOR THE HON SIMON BIRMINGHAM
The Turnbull Government is calling on South Australians to apply for $24 million worth of scholarships to skill up and take advantage of opportunities in growing or emerging local industries.

Minister for Education and Training and Senator for South Australia Simon Birmingham today outlined the details of the Commonwealth Scholarships Program for South Australia.

“We’re backing South Australians to get the skills they need to find work,” Minister Birmingham said.

“There’s a range of industries across our state where people may be interested in pursuing job opportunities but don’t necessarily have the right skills. These 1,200 scholarships will back students doing the study, training and internships in South Australia that they need to take advantage of areas like defence industry, advanced manufacturing and health services.

“These scholarships will support students at any level from a Certificate III through to a PhD in areas that will lead to employment in South Australia’s growth sectors.  Critically, the scholarships include a component of work based learning, helping to ensure students are truly job ready when they complete their qualification.

“For any South Australians that fit the bill I urge you to visit www.commonwealth-scholarships-sa.com.au  to find out how you can benefit from these scholarships.”

Minister Birmingham said with the decline in some areas of employment but growth in others, the Turnbull Government was investing record sums to help South Australia succeed.

“These scholarships will help South Australians to up-skill or, in some cases, to re-skill,” Minister Birmingham said.

“In addition to investing to support the transition in the automotive industry and to grow new businesses and create jobs, the Turnbull Government’s commitment to the $89 billion continuous naval shipbuilding program gives the South Australian defence industry the certainty they need to build, grow and invest in local businesses and create jobs.

“As those programs scale up they’re hunting for skilled local workers.

“These scholarships and our investments in South Australia’s future offer practical support to take advantage of industries where there are growth opportunities and skills needs.

“Our plan stands in stark contrast to the Labor Party who want to increase taxes on businesses, increase taxes on electricity and on investment which will kill off new jobs and opportunities.”

The Commonwealth Scholarships Program for South Australia will offer scholarships to students participating in an approved program of study in one of the following priority industries in the state:
